Job Description


The Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) is looking for a Security Operations & Training Manager to join the Security Department (SD), overseeing Protective Force activities consisting of over 200 security professionals at all NNL locations. 

 

The Security Operation & Training subdivision team is comprised of five units, Security Operations at Bettis, Knolls, Kesselring Site (KS), and Naval Reactors Facility (NRF) and Training at all locations (including NPTU-Charleston), and an advisor. The team's mission is to protect NNL's people, facilities, and information 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, and 7 days a week, and to ensure the proficiency of those fulfilling that mission. This is accomplished using sound security strategies, while making the best use of personnel and physical security systems in an ever-evolving threat environment.

 

The selected candidate will be expected to lead, influence, and enlist the support of direct reports, subdivision employees, and peers in the accomplishment of NNL and SD's mission, and will lead the subdivision's efforts to make the accomplishment of work safe, easier, simpler, and faster.  The selected candidate will be a strong advocate for teaming with the lines of business to plan efficient and cost-effective ways to accomplish work while remaining compliant with federal laws, regulations, and Department of Energy and Naval Reactors Program requirements.  This position is an integral member of the joint NNL/BPMI Security Department senior leadership team. The selected candidate will be expected to be a strong contributor to the team. 

 

 

 

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and previous management experience; or
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience and previous management experience.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience supervising a geographically dispersed workforce.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to influence and team with others.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Prior experience supervising armed personnel.
  • Prior experience with represented employees, labor relations, and collective bargaining.
  • Working knowledge of Naval Reactors General Orders and site-specific Post Orders.
  • Demonstrated reputation of prioritizing and ensuring personnel safety.
  • Demonstrated reputation of successful continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Experience mentoring and developing direct reports, including developing succession plans.
  • Working knowledge of DOE orders, or equivalent organizational/corporate/federal standards, directives, and policies.
  • Experience developing and maintaining professional working relationships with official, oversight, and external agencies.
  • Emergency Response Organization experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver quality products and processes.
  • Knowledge of Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program technology, terminology, and information, and the value of protecting that information.

Pay Range

$139,300.00 - $222,000.00 annually

Salary information provided is a general guide line only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation. Naval Nuclear Laboratory personnel are FMP employees who work at four DOE facilities: Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, Kenneth A. Kesselring Site, and Naval Reactors Facility, and at the U.S. Department of Defense-owned Nuclear Power Training Unit-Charleston. FMP employees also have an established presence at numerous shipyards and vendor locations. For nearly 70 years, the Naval Nuclear Laboratory has developed advanced nuclear propulsion technology, provided technical support, and trained world-class nuclear operators to ensure the safe and reliable operation of our nation's submarine and aircraft carrier Fleets. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is a national asset solely dedicated to the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.
