Job Description

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) Procurement Engineering Services (PES) unit is looking for a highly motivated Procurement Engineer to join the team.  As a Procurement Engineer you will work to ensure projects are compliant with operational, design, regulatory and Program requirements.  

 

The Procurement Engineer will team with laboratory requestors in developing adequate technical specifications, ensuring that the correct quality assurance requirements are invoked, providing engineering training to requestors on the proper methods to developing high quality technical requirements and support in resolving technical issues that develop during the course of a contract.  The Procurement Engineer will also be responsible to work to evaluate potential suppliers based on future business needs of FMP.  In addition, they will be responsible to recommend, perform and implement process improvements (i.e. apply lean/6 Sigma principles to technical and procurement related processes, participate/facilitate in events as practical, and track and monitor these items).  The ideal candidate will possess excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills, strong relationship building and influencing skills, and a desire to drive standardization of procurement processes across all sites.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 6 years of relevant experience; or
  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 4 years of relevant experience; or
  • Currently or previously Shift Supervisor Part I qualified; or EDO qualified and 2 years EOOW qualified in the Nuclear Operations Program; or
  • 3 years SRE qualified and Water Instructor and Refueling Facility Area Refueling Engineer and Fuel and Barrier Shift Supervisor (ECF only); or SRE qualified and 6 years of experience.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience reviewing and developing technical specifications, functional requirements, and drawings.
  • Experience/knowledge with machine and fabrication, construction, and/or service contracts.
  • Experience with document reviews, engineering evaluations/analysis, providing subject matter expertise on regulated areas (e.g. such as environmental safety, health, radiological controls, quality assurance, waste management, fire protection and emergency planning). 
  • Experience with developing with Microsoft PowerApps.
  • Experience with quality and safety standards such as NQA-1, OSHA, ISO 9000.

Pay Range

$92,900.00 - $145,200.00 annually

Salary information provided is a general guide line only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation.
