About Us

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory comprises the U.S. Department of Energy locations and personnel responsible for developing advanced naval nuclear propulsion technology, providing technical support to ensure the safety and reliability of our nation’s naval nuclear reactors, and training the Sailors who operate those reactors in the U.S. Navy’s submarines and aircraft carrier Fleets. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory, a global company who supports the World's Best Navy, is looking to expand their Regulated Materials team. We are seeking an engineer or scientist with a background in waste mangement, analytical sampling, and environmental compliance. Canidate should have some experience with resource conservation and recovery act (RCRA), waste characterization, packaging, and labeling.  Some familiarity with reading and interpreting analytical test data also desired.


The management of programs or projects to ensure compliance with  regulatory and waste permit requirements.. Examples include performing work document reviews, engineering evaluations, or analyses to support assigned tasks. Provides subject matter expertise in regulated areas such as environmental, and waste management to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements. Work may include providing interface, independent oversight and assessment of KAPL, Subcontractor, and vendor facility operations. Preparation and maintenance of records and reports to meet regulatory and Program requirements, evaluate and assess site performance, perform surveillances, clarify and implement regulatory requirements, prepare, review and approve technical work procedures and identify improvements to existing processes. May lead or provide support for inspections and interface with outside regulatory agencies.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

Bachelor's degree in a technical, engineering or science-related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of four years of relevant experience or;
Master's degree in a degree in a technical, engineering or science-related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of two years of relevant experience or;
Currently or previously NPE qualified or CTE/ACRS and one year of EOOW in the Nuclear Operations Program or Watch Instructor and Refueling Facility Area Refueling Engineer and one year as SRE
