The Naval Nuclear Laboratory comprises the U.S. Department of Energy locations and personnel responsible for developing advanced naval nuclear propulsion technology, providing technical support to ensure the safety and reliability of our nation’s naval nuclear reactors, and training the Sailors who operate those reactors in the U.S. Navy’s submarines and aircraft carrier Fleets. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory includes the Bettis and Knolls Atomic Power Laboratories, the Kenneth A. Kesselring Site, and the Naval Reactors Facility which have proudly supported the nation since 1946. Job Description
The Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) is seeking a highly motivated technical professional to work in the Information Systems & Technology organization located at Nuclear Power Training Unit (NPTU) in Charleston, SC. This organization is responsible for all IT operations supporting classified and unclassified enterprise and shipboard networks at NPTU Charleston. The Operational Support Administrator position requires the ability to apply broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures within all aspects of IT operations including IT system hardware and software, help desk administration, troubleshooting, media center, SharePoint, and telecommunications. The successful candidate will work in a technically diverse and dynamic environment directly supporting the training of naval nuclear operators. Job responsibilities include maintaining the on-site help desk (ticket generation, management, support), troubleshooting and assisting customers with resolving hardware and software issues, generating and transferring media between networks, distributing and managing laptops and cellular devices, and maintaining SharePoint sites. The successful candidate must have the ability to prioritize multiple tasks, regularly adjust work planning, provide a high level of customer support, and interface across multiple organizations to support problem resolution.
Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill
- High School diploma or equivalent and a minimum of seven years of relevant experience or;
- Associate degree in related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of five years of relevant experience or;
- Bachelor degree in a related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of one year of relevant experience
Preferred Skills
- Demonstrated customer interfaces skills
- Understanding and experience in Help Desk software (e.g., Remedy)
- Background in SharePoint and MS Office tools
- Experience in Active Directory
- Strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and problem solve
- Strong work ethic and desire to learn
- Ability to interface across multiple sites
