Job Description

Do you want a new challenge supporting the world’s best Navy   My team is hiring a Chemical engineer! Nuclear Test Engineering (NTE) is responsible for the maintenance and operation of several different types of equipment used in manufacturing and characterization processes. The Advanced Chemical Engineer is expected to possess technical knowledge in the fields of analytical instrumentation, data acquisition, sample fabrication and characterization methodologies.   The candidate shall have the ability to assist or lead in research and development, laboratory design, procurements, and deployment of new analytical instrumentation or methodologies that will enhance the current capabilities. Procurement of equipment will require planning, designing, reviewing submittals and designs, participating in acceptance testing and overseeing the installation.   In addition, the candidate will be required to trouble shoot, develop repair procedures, maintain configuration control, prepare operating procedures and drawings, and work with outside vendors to fulfill service contract requirements.  Strong verbal and written skills are essential.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 4 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 2 years of relevant experience

Preferred Skills

  • Familiar with materials characterization instrumentation (e.g. Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), LECOs, and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD))   
  • Familiar with coating technologies, metallurgy and vacuum technology.
  • Experience with Analytical Chemistry methodologies and the tools to ensure quality control/assurance.
  • Knowledgeable of environmental and radiological standards.

Pay Range

$83,600.00 - $130,700.00 annually

Salary information provided is a general guide line only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation.
