About Us

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory comprises the U.S. Department of Energy locations and personnel responsible for developing advanced naval nuclear propulsion technology, providing technical support to ensure the safety and reliability of our nation’s naval nuclear reactors, and training the Sailors who operate those reactors in the U.S. Navy’s submarines and aircraft carrier Fleets. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory includes the Bettis and Knolls Atomic Power Laboratories, the Kenneth A. Kesselring Site, and the Naval Reactors Facility which have proudly supported the nation since 1946. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory has nearly 8,000 employees working at primary locations in Pennsylvania, New York, South Carolina, and Idaho. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory also has an established presence at numerous shipyards and vendor locations around the globe. We are dedicated solely to the support of the United States Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. Advanced Electrical Engineer

NNL is looking for candidates with a good work ethic and problem-solving skills to become masters of our systems and processes.  

 

This is a posting for Electrical Engineering opportunities to maintain the electrical systems associated with Electrical Power Distribution.  Typical duties of an Electrical Engineer will include performing engineering analyses, authoring manuals/procedures, troubleshooting issues in the field, performing life cycle management, supporting projects, and assessing system health, among other duties. Candidates could be part of a great team with other engineers, technical writers, planners, drafters, and operations/subcontracted personnel to accomplish our assignments.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

BS degree in engineering or Bachelor's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of four years of relevant experience or;
MS degree in engineering or Master's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of two years of relevant experience or;
Currently or previously NPE qualified or CTE/ACRS and one year of EOOW in the Nuclear Operations Program or Watch Instructor and Refueling Facility Area Refueling Engineer and one year as SRE

Preferred Skills

  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Knowledge of Electrical Drawings and Schematics
  • Knowledge of Electrical Equipment Operation (Overcurrent Protective Devices, Transformers, Switchgear, Fusing, etc.)
  • Medium Voltage Electrical System Protection
  • Knowledge of Electrical Testing and Preventative Maintenance
  • Power System Analysis
  • Electrical Safety
  • Arc Flash Analysis
