The Naval Nuclear Laboratory comprises the U.S. Department of Energy locations and personnel responsible for developing advanced naval nuclear propulsion technology, providing technical support to ensure the safety and reliability of our nation’s naval nuclear reactors, and training the Sailors who operate those reactors in the U.S. Navy’s submarines and aircraft carrier Fleets. Job Description

The Chemistry Laboratories organization is seeking an Application Developer/Administrator to support our Laboratory Information Management System. This role requires a broad understanding of technology including server, network, database, application and scripting skills.  The person in this role will be responsible for the maintenance and development of a highly customized commercial application, STARLIMS, including the planning and execution of major upgrades to improve performance and flexibility.   The STARLIMS application has over 500 NNL users at three different sites and is critical to effective operation of our laboratory.  This position gives you the opportunity to work in a technically diverse environment on a team responsible for meeting the chemical analysis and materials characterization challenges for the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. 

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of nine years of relevant experience or; Master's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of seven years of relevant experience.

 

Preferred Skills

  • Experience developing web applications using current technologies such as JavaScript, Jscript, .NET, and HTML5.
  • Experience developing custom reports using Crystal Reports.
  • Experience in the configuration and customization of a Laboratory Information Management System.
  • Experience with STARLIMS, preferably QM v11 vertical
  • Experience with Crystal Reports scripting language and Visual Basic language
  • Experience developing technical documentation and managing application development projects
