The Naval Nuclear Laboratory comprises the U.S. Department of Energy locations and personnel responsible for developing advanced naval nuclear propulsion technology, providing technical support to ensure the safety and reliability of our nation’s naval nuclear reactors, and training the Sailors who operate those reactors in the U.S. Navy’s submarines and aircraft carrier Fleets. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory includes the Bettis and Knolls Atomic Power Laboratories, the Kenneth A. Kesselring Site, and the Naval Reactors Facility which have proudly supported the nation since 1946. Inspection Services is seeking a qualified individual to join our Inspection Services team at the Bettis Laboratory. Inspection Services is a unit of Product Quality within the Quality, Performance & Improvement Department of NNL. Inspection Services is a cross-site unit that performs various types of quality assurance inspections and mechanical tool calibrations in support of the NNL technical community.
An Inspection Engineer in the Inspection Services unit can expect to develop and improve upon inspection methods and procedures to inspect and record the adequacy of complex components using various precision measuring devices (coordinate measuring machines, surface and contour measuring machines, form scanners, optical comparators, etc.). An Inspection Engineer in the Inspection Services unit can also expect to interact with a large and diverse group of NNL customers and suppliers. Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill
Bachelor's degree in a technical, engineering or science-related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of four years of relevant experience or;
Master's degree in a degree in a technical, engineering or science-related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of two years of relevant experience or;
Currently or previously NPE qualified or CTE/ACRS and one year of EOOW in the Nuclear Operations Program or Watch Instructor and Refueling Facility Area Refueling Engineer and one year as SRE
Experience engineering and/or two or more years performing precise measurement of complex components using coordinate measuring machines, surface and contour measuring systems, form scanners, and/or optical comparators. Strong attention to detail, highly organized, and exemplary work ethic. Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
