Job Description

The Naval Nuclear laboratory,  Expended Core Facility Recapitalization department (ER) is seeking an experienced engineer to support the $1.5B Naval Spent Fuel Handling (NSFH) Facility construction project in Idaho. The focus of this project is to replace aging infrastructure that supports nuclear fuel processing.

This individual will work as a field engineering member of the NSFH Facility Construction organization to ensure the new facility meets all project technical requirements. The Field Engineer will work with the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management (EPCM) subcontractor and the NSFH Facility Engineering organization to ensure the NSFH Facility technical requirements are met and that documentation and records are maintained to support facility commissioning and start-up operations.

This position requires frequent interface with the EPCM construction engineering personnel, ER engineering and management, and Naval Reactors Facility organizations. The ability to work independently with limited supervision is a must. day-to-day responsibilities include: Participate in planning upcoming construction work by providing engineering input, Provide field oversight of construction technical performance, Act as the primary interface with the EPCM Resident Engineering organization, Coordinate with NSFH Facility design engineering personnel to resolve technical questions and issues, Act as the ER lead for technical input on contract technical change requests and requests for information, Lead interface with Naval reactors Facility organizations for system interface and work area turn-over, Conduct field surveillance of construction work to ensure requirements are met and documentation is developed, Stop work if if imminent danger or adverse environmental impact are present, Document deficiencies and provide follow up to validate implementation of corrective actions, participate in formal audits, including developing plans, conducting audits, and documenting findings in formal reports
