Job Description

The Naval Reactors Facility is seeking a Safety Professional to support a >$1.5 billion facility construction project. The focus of this project is to replace aging infrastructure that supports nuclear fuel processing. This individual will work with the Quality and Safety Oversight team and use his/her expertise in applying safety and health requirements through surveillance of work and audits of compliance posture and efforts.

The Safety Professional is responsible for ensuring that work is conducted safely and in accordance with applicable requirements. This individual should have a solid understanding of relevant safety and health requirements associated with OSHA General Industry and OSHA Construction Industry requirements and standards. This position requires consistent interaction with Naval Nuclear Laboratory management and peers as well as the project Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management contractor and construction subcontractors in order to clarify existing policies, procedures, requirements, and program standards. The ability to work independently with limited supervision is a must.

Day-to-day responsibilities:

--Aid in scoping and identifying the application of safety and health requirements

--Provide support with oversight and assessment of construction compliance areas including safety, health, and industrial hygiene

--Stop work if imminent danger or adverse environmental impact are present

--Monitor work practices to ensure compliance with work plans and relevant regulations

--Document deficiencies and provide follow up to validate implementation of corrective actions

--Prepare and participate in site inspections and government interfaces
